Bow Buddy is a smart, student-friendly tool that helps young violinists build good bow care habits from the start. Designed with beginners in mind, Bow Buddy makes it easier (and more fun!) to manage two essential parts of bow maintenance: rosin application and bow tensioning.

On one side, you’ll find a built-in rosin spinner and guide, designed to help apply rosin evenly and avoid the deep groove that shortens the life of your rosin cake. Just remove the cap, glide the bow across the rosin, and rotate the guide cover until you hear a satisfying click. This ensures you use a fresh surface each time—extending rosin life and improving application.

Flip Bow Buddy over, and you’ll discover an integrated bow button wrench. Specially shaped to fit most student bows, the wrench stays in place while loosening or tightening the bow screw—perfect for young players still developing hand strength.

INSTRUCTIONS

Applying Rosin

  1. Remove the cap to expose the rosin.
  2. Apply rosin to the bow hair as usual.
  3. Rotate the rosin sleeve until you feel a satisfying click—this reveals a fresh surface for next time.
  4. Replace the cap for safe storage.

Tip: For best results, slightly roughen the rosin surface. You can do this by rubbing the bow hair over the rosin a few times at each click position, or by lightly scuffing the surface with fine sandpaper or another abrasive.

Tightening the Bow

  1. Insert the bow button into the wrench pocket on the bottom of the tool.
  2. Secure the fit. For most bows, the button will sit fully in the pocket. For larger buttons, press in until snug. *Tilt the tip of the bow downward to keep the Buddy securely in place and prevent it from slipping off or falling.
  3. Turn the Bow Buddy to tighten the bow hair to the desired tension.
  4. To loosen, repeat the steps and turn in the opposite direction.

Tip: The hair should be tight enough to play, but still bounce slightly when tapped.
